Quality and Alloy Steel Products

Quality and alloy steel products supplied to grade and size; not held in continuous stock, sourced to order.

Quality and alloy steels are alloyed for applications needing higher strength, hardness or wear resistance than carbon steel offers. This group is supplied to order rather than from stock: once grade, dimension and quantity are agreed, we source it from the mill or through import.

We do not hold continuous stock in this group; tell us the grade, size and quantity and we will share the lead time and the price.

Why we do not publish prices

Steel is priced daily. A figure we publish today would not be binding tomorrow, so we do not post prices anywhere on the site. Tell us the item, dimension and tonnage and we will share that day's price item by item, together with ex-stock delivery and warehouse withdrawal options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About This Page

What is quality steel?

Quality steel is steel whose chemical composition and mechanical properties have been adjusted specifically for a particular use. What separates it from carbon steel is the hardness, wear resistance or heat resistance imparted by alloying elements.

Why do you not hold continuous stock in this group?

Because the variety of grades and dimensions in quality steel is very wide; supplying to order is both faster and more accurate than holding every grade in stock. Tell us what you need and we will share the lead time and the price.

Can you find the grade I ask for?

If you tell us the grade, dimension and quantity, we research the supply options and come back to you. If a grade cannot be found, we say so plainly — we do not drag the process out with "we'll see".

Do certificates come with quality steel?

A quality certificate and an analysis certificate are standard requirements for quality steel; we deliver them with the consignment we supply. We tell you in writing before the order which certificate will come.

What is the lead time?

It varies with the grade, the dimension and the source of supply, which is why we do not give a number of days in advance. Once we have your request we give you a realistic period.

Can I hold my quality steel consignment in the warehouse?

You can; imported quality steel consignments can wait in our bonded warehouse with duty deferred. Because storage and trading run at the same address, you do not need to look for a separate warehouse.

What information do I need to give for alloy steel?

The grade (for example the DIN/EN equivalent), the section or diameter, the length and the quantity. If you also state the intended use — wear, hardness, heat resistance — we can suggest suitable alternatives.

How should I choose between carbon steel and quality steel?

The mechanical property the job requires decides it. For standard structural work and general fabrication the S235/S275/S355 grades in our stock are sufficient, while parts needing wear or heat resistance require quality steel.
